Pioneering yoga in wild islands, home to the puffins

Join our pioneering retreat with yoga teacher Zephyr Wildman in the remote and unexplored Faroe Islands. Located in the Norwegian Sea between Iceland and Scotland, this isolated archipelago of 18 tiny islands is known for its rugged beauty, dramatic landscape, wild coastline and resident puffins. Enjoy daily yoga, hikes around the northern archipelago, a night in Tórshavn, and a private boat trip to see the puffins on Mykines island. In mid-summer the days are long and the sun never sets so we have plenty of time to truly immerse in all that the Faroe Islands have to offer.

Our retreat location is Viðareiði, the northernmost settlement in the Faroe Islands on the Island of Viðoy. We’ll spend 4 nights here, combining daily yoga with hiking. You’ll start your days with dynamic flow yoga class with Zephyr to awaken your mind and body. Your evening practice will yin and restorative yoga, meditation and deep relaxation to help you unwind and settle after your day out in the wilderness.

Our hikes will include Villingadalsfjall, a four hour adventure up the highest mountain on Viðoy island where you see Cape Enniberg is the tallest vertical sea cliff in the world. We will also head to Hvíthamar, a shorter hike just above the little village of Funningur on Eysturoy island where you will get an epic view of Funningsfjørður, one of the most beloved fjords in the Faroe Islands. We will also take the ferry from Klaksvík to Kalsoy and hike to Kallur the iconic lighthouse. (The Faroe Islands are known for their unpredictable weather so we may need be flexible on hiking timings and locations, but we have long mid summer days to give us plenty of flexibility).

Our retreat ends with a night in Tórshavn, one of Europe’s smallest capital cities. During the day, wander around cobbled alleyways lined with turf roof houses and enjoy lunch at the highly regarded Katrina Christiansen restaurant. In the evening we will set off to Vagar island and visit Gasadalur waterfall before joining our private boat trip to see the puffins on Mykines island. If we are lucky with the weather we will  experience the midnight sun on our way back.

If you have time the following day, we recommend kayaking on the Leitisvatn, known as the silver lake above the ocean. An epic 3 hour guided paddling trip along a 6 km lake Bøsdalafossur waterfall.
